Great for anyone new to ramp launching, or for families where a spouse or teen is learning the trailer side.

Experience level

New captains, new-to-Okoboji boaters, or spouses/partners who want to share helm duties.

Where we train

Primarily on West Lake Okoboji, with other Iowa Great Lakes by request.

WHAT YOU'LL PRACTICE

Key skills in this module.

  • Ramp etiquette and staging so you’re ready before you back down.
  • Backing a trailer with simple visual references and small corrections.
  • Launch and loading checklist that keeps you from skipping steps.
  • Winch, guides, and engine safety around the trailer.

EXAMPLE SESSION

How a typical session might flow.

  • Dry-land walkthrough with your vehicle, trailer, and boat before you ever touch the ramp.
  • Practice backing into a wide-open area before working near the ramp.
  • Slow, calm practice launch with coaching on communication and hand signals.
  • Final full-sequence run: stage, launch, park, load, and pull out.
